Feature: Ed Prosek

By Melisa Baykent

Soft acoustic melodies combined with touching lyrics describes the California native, Ed Prosek pretty well. He brought his folk music with him when he moved to Brighton, England in 2010 and has been making orchestral folk music since then.

Musical talent doesn’t fall far from the tree, with him being the son of an Opera composer. Ed Prosek studied at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music and developed a formal classical background as well, which you can hear a bit in his music.

He has built a name for himself and is someone to watch out for. His debut release ‘California’ has sold several thousand copies since its release in June 2012, and has received great reviews, establishing him as an artist to watch out for. His version of Paul Simon’s ‘Homeward Bound’ is perfectly executed with the help of a seven-piece band and a string quartet. The song has even been featured as the soundtrack to the latest Cathedral City ad campaign.

He is an artist who knows how to combine two different styles of music and make it sound wonderful at the same time, something that is pretty hard to do.
