Formed in Seattle, Washington three years ago, the young band, The Head and the Heart, is beginning to leave its mark on the alternative music world. It is made of vocalists, Josiah Johnson, Jonathan Russell and Charity Rose Thielen. Basist, Chris Zasche, keyboardist, Kenny Hensley, and drummer, Tyler Williams, also make up the band. It’s unique brand of music is being recognized by everyone from soundtracks to casual music fans to those devoted indie music lovers.
The Head and the Heart is more than a catchy title; it tells the story of the band. Simply listening to the music, it is upbeat, catchy and easy to fall in love with. However, there is more under the surface. The lyrics are formed from experience and pain. The band first met at open mic nights, while none of them had any idea of where there musical talent would take them.
The Head and the Heart is unique in that it uses vocals from three different singers. No two songs are alike, each has its own unique feeling and message. Often, they will combine in a song to create the most amazing harmonies.
The band has opened for headliners such as Vampire Weekend, The Decemberists, Dr Dog and Iron and Wine. Now headlining their own tour, The Head and the Heart is learning just how supported and loved they are by their fans. No doubt this band is just taking off and there will be plenty more to come.
Music video for Cats and Dogs is a perfect description of The Head and the Heart’s style. Light and happy, you won’t be able to resist smiling while watching them. Every video displays their pure joy of working together.
