Matt Corby’s explosive single “Brother” took the independent music world by storm in 2012. Whether you heard it first at one of his intimate gigs, or have watched on YouTube or over the internet, there’s no denying that the dynamic vocals, lyrical meaning and melody make this song one that you replay and replay and never get bored of. A favourite with old fans and new fans alike, this song hits us right where it hurts.
As Matt says in an interview with Triple J, the song has depth and meaning and is very personal to him, but that it is also ambiguous enough that it can be translated any way for anyone.
Whether you like Matt’s acoustic versions, or like me, his electric guitar renditions, everyone has their own preference. Soft Concrete has compiled a Top Ten for you to choose yours!
Brother is taken from the Into The Flame EP, currently available from Matt’s store or via iTunes.
