Album Review: Beacon by Two Door Cinema Club

by: Melisa Baykent

The indie rock band from Northern Ireland are finally back with their sophomore album, ‘Beacon’. After two years they have finally produced an album that follows up to their debut album, ‘Tourist History’, which put them on the top five of the US Billboard Heatseekers Albums chart.

The album opens with ‘Next Year’, which sounds like it could be Death Cab For Cutie’s next single, puts the listener in a trance. The fourth song on the album ‘Sun’ pulls away from the electronic openings and has a soothing sound that isn’t as upbeat as some of the others on the record. The next track, ‘Someday’, opens with an amazing guitar riff and seems to display the band’s instrumental talent. The last song on the album, ‘Beacon’, has a very interesting sound to it and for sure puts the ribbon around a perfectly good album.

Overall, the album is definitely worth checking out and seems to be a perfect follow up to their debut album. I definitely recommend everyone to give it a listen and catch them on tour.
