Book Review: #GIRLBOSS by Sophia Amoruso

Was it luck or was it purely magic?

Sophia Amoruso went from the trouble-making, angsty young adult to the CEO of a very successful online clothing company in just a couple of years, something that many of us can only dream about. The Cinderella-esque styled story, however, is more than just the damsel in distress meeting her prince charming (in this case Nasty Gal is Amoruso’s prince charming), but is one full of insight, humor, and a slight amount of wisdom.

#GIRLBOSS may off-put some due to the honesty of Amoruso’s words or because of the hashtag found in the title, but have no fear this book isn’t about twenty first century online lingo or the world of hashtags. The best-selling novel, however, highlights not only Amoruso’s accomplishments but that of other “girl bosses”. It is a detailed account into Amoruso’s life and how the backbone of Nasty Gal was built.

The novel may not be a guidebook on how to start a business, meaning there won’t be step by step instructions, however, within every experience that Amoruso mentions there is some form of hidden advice and some not-so-hidden advice. Amoruso’s brilliantly detailed accounts aren’t meant to tell you what to do, but rather inspire you to achieve your dreams.

For those of you wanting a business book that lays out everything in order to be successful from financial strategies to marketing strategies, then #GIRLBOSS is not for you. However, if you’re interested in a read that will inspire you to push yourself, then this may just be it.
