The Mercy Beat Breakdown ‘The Mercy Beat’ EP

EP Artwork
Sam of The Mercy Beat took time out of his day to breakdown their self-titled EP that is set for a June 17th release date. The three track record is short, sweet, and flawless. See what Sam has to say about the EP below and be sure to check them out on Facebook and Twitter.

“An Act of Mercy”
The song is based around the bassline, which I think subconsciously we got from “Express Yourself” by Charles Wright & The Watts 103rd Street Rhythm Band. As far as what I’m singing about– we all seem to have a misconception that it’s always nobler to be honest, that the “right” thing to do is always to tell the truth, but I think this is completely wrong. Often people use “the truth” as an excuse to justify their own selfish desires, maybe to hurt someone or feel power over them in some way. Often I think the truly noble thing is to lie, and ignorance really is bliss.

“Sweet”
It’s a simple love song. It’s about capturing a moment, trying to hold it still, outside the motion of time. The song has a surreal quality to me, like trying to hold on to the memory of a dream from the night before.

“Fool for a Fool”
This one is our take on Philly Soul. Again, ignorance is bliss.
